Nova Welsh murder: Ex-partner faces trial for 1981 murder

The former partner of a woman who was killed 35 years ago is to stand trial over her murder.

Nova Welsh, 24, was found in a utility cupboard at flats in Lighthorne Avenue, Birmingham, on 18 August, 1981.

A post-mortem examination revealed the mother-of-two died from pressure to the neck.

Osmond Bell, 59, of Regent Road, Handsworth, was remanded in custody at Birmingham Crown Court until 22 August. His trial is due to begin in February.
