Police murder probe into missing New Zealand national
The disappearance of a New Zealand national living in Walsall is being treated as murder.
Gina Lander, 46, was reported as missing from her home by her partner, David Stokes, on 16 March.
His body was found by police on 21 April. An inquest on 3 August ruled he had committed suicide and Ms Lander had been unlawfully killed.
Her body has not been found. West Midlands Police referred itself to the police watchdog.
A spokesperson from the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) said after an assessment, the case was referred back to the force for "local investigation" in April.
Police officers discovered the body of Mr Stokes, 39, following reports of a man falling off a bridge.
A force spokesman said: "One line of enquiry has been that David Stokes may have killed Gina and disposed of her remains shortly before she was reported missing."
