Man jailed over car crash that killed nephew

A man who crashed a car causing the death of his nephew has been jailed.

Kane Balogun, 14, from Birmingham, died after the car he was travelling in hit a tree at the junction of Stechford Road and Beaufort Avenue, Hodge Hill, on 16 October.

At Birmingham Crown Court, Anton Lewis, 26, of Maybank in Bordelsey Green, was convicted of causing death by dangerous driving and jailed for six years.

He was also banned from driving for eight years after his release.

Sgt Steve Newbury, from West Midlands Police, said Lewis was found to have been speeding and driving a car with under-inflated tyres and had also tested positive for cannabis.

He said: "There are no winners here. A young boy has lost his life, taken by a family member who will have to live with that for the rest of his life."
