Lorry driver 'drove wrong way on M42'

A lorry driver has been accused of driving the wrong way down the M42.

The man is accused of driving south on the northbound carriageway between junctions six and seven amid extra traffic from the closure of the nearby M6 due to a fatal collision.

The driver He was stopped and arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving on Thursday evening, motorway police said.

Drivers on the M6, M42 and surrounding Birmingham routes faced hours of delays on Thursday due to the M6 crash.

A motorist died when his car collided with a lorry near Castle Bromwich at about 02:00 GMT on Thursday.

The northbound carriageway reopened at about 01:30 GMT on Friday.

The M42 lorry driver will appear in court on a date yet to be confirmed.
