Train passengers were left stuck for more than an hour after a tree fell on overhead power lines in Birmingham.

Three trains were affected, with passengers waiting to be rescued, West Midlands Fire Service said on Twitter.

The tree took down a power line, missing a house near Wellington Road, Handsworth Wood, at about 13:00 GMT, the fire service said.

London Midland said the line between Birmingham and Rugeley Trent Valley had reopened but some trains were delayed.

It said earlier that tickets were being accepted on National Express West Midlands bus services.
