Aston rapist 'befriended' victim before hiding in her garden
A man who befriended a student by carrying her shopping at a railway station has been jailed for seven years after hiding in her back garden and raping her.
Awais Khan, 26, of Witton Road, Aston, approached the woman after she had been shopping, and walked her home.
A week later he climbed over the fence, waited until his 20-year-old victim was alone and attacked her.
When released, Khan will be deported to Pakistan, he was told.
At Birmingham Crown Court, Khan admitted two counts of rape and was sentenced to seven years and four months in prison. He will be on sex offenders' register for life.
Speaking after the hearing, Det Con Gavin McGrath, from West Midlands Police, said: "This young woman endured a sickening ordeal at the hands of Khan, who had planned his attack for a number of days.
"There are no excuses or grey areas when it comes to rape."
