Driver, 88, smashes through Wordsley hairdressers' window

An 88-year-old driver ploughed through the window of a hairdressers after losing control of her car.

A number of staff and customers were in the shop in Wordsley, West Midlands, at the time but escaped injury, firefighters said.

The driver of the blue Volkswagen Polo crashed through the window into the waiting area at about 11:45 GMT, West Midlands Fire Service said.

She was treated by paramedics in the shop next door but was also uninjured.

Watch Commander Tom Edwards said: "There were several hairdressers and clients in the shop at the time.

"The car went into the waiting area but fortunately there was no one in there.

"When we arrived [the driver] was in the shop next door.

"One crew member went to assist paramedics but she was not injured."
