Murder charge after Birmingham flat fire

A man has been charged with murder after a woman died in hospital following a flat fire.

Nazia Akhtar, 31, sustained extensive burns, police said, and died on Friday following the fire in Fox Hollies Road, Acocks Green, Birmingham, on 25 April.

Muhammad Hammad, 30, of Fox Hollies Road, who received burn injuries, was due to appear before Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Saturday.

The fire is being treated as arson, West Midlands Police said.

It said an investigation is ongoing to determine what caused the fire and a post-mortem examination would be carried out in due course.
