A tower block in Birmingham has been demolished.

The Cornwall Tower, on Heaton Street in Hockley, was pulled down as part of the city council's plan to get rid of properties which it says could need a lot of investment in the future.

The former residential tower block is one of several buildings the council plans to demolish.

It says the demolitions will help it create the opportunity to build new, affordable homes.

The demolitions could help provide further development opportunities such as land to be made available for retail use, the council added.

The A4540 Heaton Street was closed in both directions between Lodge Road and Hockley Circus for most of Sunday for the demolition. Severe traffic delays were reported.
