A father and son have been jailed after an attack outside a West Midlands pub left a man in a critical condition.

Darren and Zach Cole, aged 48 and 25, attacked a 45-year-old man outside the Staffordshire Knot pub in Darlaston in June.

The victim had to be put into a medically induced coma, police said.

Cole Snr, of Ruskin Street, West Bromwich, and his son, of Highfields, Burntwood were each jailed for eight years on Friday.

They admitted wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm at an earlier hearing at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

Det Con Chris Wischhusen from West Midlands Police described it as a "vicious and sustained attack on a defenceless man who was out enjoying a quiet drink at the pub".

"He suffered life threatening injuries and spent many weeks in hospital, leaving him with severe head injuries and partial paralysis," he said.
