A man and a woman have been found dead with stab wounds in a house where three children were asleep.

The man aged 32, and the 29-year-old woman - believed to be former partners - were found an address in Hollemeadow Avenue, Walsall, West Midlands.

Three girls, aged 11, eight and seven, asleep in the house, were uninjured.

A man aged 19, who was also at the house, has been arrested on suspicion of murder. It is understood he was known to the two people who died.

Weapon recovered

The West Midlands force said police were called to the address at 03:50 BST by the ambulance service.

A weapon has been recovered from inside the property and a murder inquiry has been launched.

The force said while the precise cause of death was yet to be established by post-mortem examinations, both people were believed to have died as a result of knife injuries.

The children are being cared for by friends. It is unclear whether they were children of the two people who died, police said.
