Five people have been named as bearers for the Commonwealth Games' Queen's Baton Relay leg through Birmingham.

Commonwealth gold medallist swimmer and coach Adam Ruckwood, GB international rhythmic gymnast Mimi Isabella Cesar and triple jumper Laura Samuel will carry the baton on 2 June.

Sports volunteers Pritesh Pattni and Jess Edwards complete the group.

They were chosen in recognition of their contribution to sport and the community, the city council said.

The baton will be in Victoria Square at 08:30 BST before it is taken to Sunset Park in Ladywood, Holders Lane in Moseley, Ward End Park and Centenary Square.

The relay was launched by the Queen at Buckingham Palace last year and has been the Commonwealth Games' curtain-raiser since 1958.

The baton will visit 70 Commonwealth nations and territories ahead of the opening ceremony in Glasgow on 23 July.
