A woman who threw a glass in the face of a neighbour complaining about noise at a party, causing her to lose an eye, has been jailed for three years.

Theresa Murphy, 29, of Austin Close, Birmingham, admitted causing grievous bodily harm.

Birmingham Crown Court heard Murphy had been drunk at a party in Lodge Road on 23 August when a 55-year-old resident asked for the music to be turned down.

Murphy threw the glass she was holding, causing the woman to collapse.

West Midlands Police said Murphy was arrested attempting to leave the party in a taxi.

Det Con Chris Smith said doctors had been unable to save the sight in the victim's left eye and had to remove it completely.

"After several painful operations, her ordeal is still not over and she has yet to undergo a skin graft to repair scars on her face where the glass hit her.

"The attack had a devastating effect," he said.
