Man arrested over Birmingham City Centre hit-and-run death

A man has been arrested after a pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run driver in Birmingham city centre.

West Midlands Police said a 21-year-old from Bromford had been arrested at an address in Bordesley on suspicion of death by dangerous driving.

A car has been seized for forensic examination, police said.

A 22-year-old man died in hospital after being struck by a car outside the Solomon Cutler pub in Broad Street at about 05:00 GMT.

He had life-threatening injuries and was taken by ambulance to City Hospital but later died.

The road between Gas Street and Bridge Street was closed off for about six hours while an investigation was carried out, police said.
