Two held after Handsworth street shooting

Two men have been arrested after a man was shot, leaving him in a life-threatening condition in hospital.

He was found shot in the chest on the pavement in Babington Road, Handsworth, Birmingham, at about 16:30 BST.

Early indications were that it was a targeted attack, West Midlands Police said.

Armed officers were dispatched to the street near to the junction with Soho Road when a PCSO reported hearing shots fired.

Ch Insp Neil Hobson said: "Officers gave the injured man emergency first aid before paramedics arrived to take over."

The Babington Road was due to remain closed until Saturday afternoon.
