A robber who threatened people with a knife at a Birmingham cash machine has been jailed.

Craig Berrey targeted people using the Lloyds TSB machine in The Green, Kings Norton, on three consecutive days at the start of April, police said.

At Birmingham Crown Court, the 37-year-old, from Broadmead Court in Northampton, was found guilty of robbery, affray and attempted robbery.

Berrey was jailed for nine years and six months.

'Extremely shaken'

Police said he targeted a lone 25-year-old woman on 1 April, a 38-year-old woman on 2 April and a man in his 60s on 3 April.

On the final occasion, a passer-by called 999 after he was spotted acting suspiciously. He fled the scene but was detained after a short chase.

Det Con Darran Ford, of West Midlands Police, said: "We are satisfied with the sentence which will protect others from becoming one of his victims.

"Although none of his victims were injured they were all extremely shaken after having a knife held to their throats."
