Minworth water workers win Sing While You Work

A choir made up of employees from a West Midlands water firm is celebrating winning a national TV contest.

Workers from Severn Trent Water entered BBC Two's Sing While You Work show.

Royal Mail, Lewisham NHS Trust and Manchester Airport also took part in choirmaster Gareth Malone's show.

The Severn Trent workers won after performing at the International Eisteddfod, Llangollen, in Denbighshire, north Wales, in front of thousands of people.

The competition aimed to find the UK's best workplace choir.

The winners clinched the title with their rendition of Feeling Good, which was made famous by Nina Simone. The final show was broadcast on Thursday evening.

Mr Malone said: "This time last week I thought that Severn Trent Choir were the underdogs, and I don't feel like that now, I feel like they have really notched it up."

The choir, who spent months rehearsing, returned to the company's Minworth Sewage Treatment Works for a special performance for their colleagues.

The choir has decided to stay together and say they are now rehearsing for their first public concert this Christmas.
