Looter Danielle Corns jailed for stealing trainers

A West Midlands teenager who stole two left-footed trainers during the August riots has been jailed for 10 months.

Danielle Corns, 19, from Tildesley Drive in Willenhall, had already admitted one count of burglary.

Corns, 18 at the time, was caught on CCTV entering a Wolverhampton store before emerging seconds later clutching the footwear which was later discarded.

She will serve her sentence, handed down at Wolverhampton Crown Court, at a young offenders institution.

The case was brought following an investigation into looting in the city centre on 9 August.

As he passed sentence, Judge John Warner accepted that Corns had followed others into the Zhapp fashion store but added that offenders were collectively responsible for losses to the shop amounting to thousands of pounds.

Mr Warner also said the 10-month term was the shortest sentence consistent with his public duty.
