Birmingham binmen to be balloted over strike action
Unions representing binmen in Birmingham have voted in favour of strike action.
The GMB union's website said it planned to ballot members on industrial action over changes to their contracts.
If supported, a strike has been planned for Wednesday 30 November. It would be the second time this year the city's binmen have chosen to walk out.
Birmingham City Council said it had not received formal notification of any proposed action.
A council spokesperson said: "The council will make every effort to ensure contingencies are in place should any action occur - as it has successfully done in the past on at least two occasions as recently as this summer.
"However, at this stage we have not received formal notification of any proposed action from the unions.
"It must also be remembered that industrial action can take many forms and does not necessarily mean employees would be walking out on strike."
