Guard shot in robbery at Santander bank in Birmingham

A security guard was hit on the head with a crowbar and shot in the arm in a robbery at a bank in Birmingham.

The guard, who was delivering money to Santander in Erdington, was shot with a taser-style gun so he would release a canister of cash, police said.

Four black men left in a black BMW with the container, which held a large, undisclosed amount of money.

The guard was not injured in the robbery, which happened at about 1815 GMT on Monday at the High Street bank.
