The body of a man found in a canal in Birmingham is still to be identified, police said.

The body was recovered from the Birmingham and Worcester canal by the Mailbox bar and shopping complex at about 1300 GMT on Sunday.

A passerby called police when the body was spotted. Police said the man appeared to have been in the water for some time.

A post-mortem examination has not established a cause of death.

The man was aged about 60, had grey receding hair and was wearing a black zip-up jacket, dark trousers and dark shoes.

Police would like anyone who thinks they may have seen the man, or witnesses any incidents near to the canal between 23 October and Sunday to contact them.
