Man's body found in Birmingham canal

The body of a man has been found in a canal in Birmingham city centre.

Emergency crews were called to an area of Birmingham and Worcester canal by the Mailbox bar and shopping complex at about 1300 GMT.

The police were alerted by a passer-by who saw the body in the water.

The man, who is said to be in his late 40s or early 50s, has not yet been identified and is thought to have been in the water for some time. The death is being treated as unexplained.
