Wife of West Berkshire Council leader dies in crash in France

A car crash in France has left the wife of the leader of West Berkshire Council dead and he is in a "serious condition".

Councillor Roger Croft and his wife Grizelda were travelling through the country when the collision happened.

In a statement the authority said Mr Croft was "currently in hospital seriously injured."

It added that deputy leader Councillor Graham Jones had taken over the role of leader until further notice.

The authority said: "Our thoughts and condolences are with Roger, his family and friends at this very difficult time."
