A man has died in a crash involving two vehicles on the A33 in Reading.

Police said a Citroen C1 hit the central reservation of the dual carriageway at the Rose Kiln Lane junction just before 05:15 BST.

The 27-year-old driver was pronounced dead at the scene and a 20-year-old man driving a BMW was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

Police said they believe the Citroen was stolen from outside an address in Waterside Gardens.

A spokesman said a few minutes prior to the crash it was seen at an address in Symeon Place and at that point there were two people in the vehicle.

The road was closed in both directions for more than five hours.

Motorists faced long delays during the rush hour as alternative routes through the town centre became gridlocked.
