Special inspector sacked over blue lights and sirens breach

A special inspector who drove a marked police car with its sirens and lights on when he was not trained to do so has been sacked for gross misconduct.

Special Inspector Phillip Simpson, who served in Wokingham, activated the car in October during a journey from Old Forest Road to Easthampstead Road.

Thames Valley Police said Mr Simpson had also been subject of a previous finding of misconduct in relation to "similar behaviour".

He was dismissed with immediate effect.

Det Chief Supt Tim de Meyer, said: "The public must be able to have confidence that officers are driving in accordance with their training and abilities."
