A 73-year-old man has been killed after being hit by a car in Slough.

Police, firefighters and the air ambulance were called to Wellington Street outside the Tesco Extra store shortly before 14:30 GMT but the man, who was from the town, died at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

The A4 eastbound, a major route through the town centre, was closed by the roundabout and junction with Brunel Way, but has now reopened.

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to the collision to come forward.

It said the victim was struck by a silver Mercedes which was travelling eastbound along the A4.
