Cold Ash schools close and residents without water due to burst pipe

Two schools have closed and up to 700 homes are without water after a burst water pipe emptied a local reservoir.

Cold Ash St Marks Primary is to close completely after lunch and Hermitage Primary School is also shut.

Between 600 and 700 residents in West Berkshire, in the postcode areas RG14, RG18 and RG20, are without water.

Thames Water said the Cold Ash reservoir is being refilled and water should be restored before 16:30 GMT.

Cold Ash pre-school, which operates from Acland Hall, is also closed.

Priors Court School has been affected but remains open.

A spokeswoman for Thames Water said: "We worked through the night to repair the pipe and have now begun work to refill the reservoir and in turn our network.

"We're really sorry to customers affected by this."

Bottled water is available in Castle Inn, Cold Ash Hill, Willis Close, Cold Ash Common, Holly Lodge, Bucklebury Avenue, Cold Ash Parish Council office and Manor Farm.
