Two arrested on suspicion of murder over Banbury park attack

Two men have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was attacked in a park.

Martins Rudzitis, 43, died three weeks after he was assaulted in a robbery at the main entrance to People's Park in Banbury, Oxfordshire, in July.

A post-mortem examination found he died from head injuries which could be linked to the assault, police said.

A 20-year-old man and a 19-year-old man, both from Banbury, were arrested and bailed until 25 September.

Det Sgt Ali Driver said: "This is quite a complex investigation and it has taken some time for officers to piece together the movements of Mr Rudzitis in the days prior to his death."

Mr Rudzitis was attacked at about 21:30 BST on 11 July.

He managed to walk away but died on 3 August.

Det Sgt Driver said: "It was still light at the time and we are aware that other members of the public may have seen what happened or have been pestered by the offenders as they entered or exited the park.

"We would urge anyone with information about this to contact police."
