Brazilian student death in Bracknell investigated by IPCC

The death of a man who became unwell after police were called to a Berkshire pub, is under investigation.

The 34-year-old Brazilian student, who has not been named, died on 19 January after Thames Valley Police were called to the Bridge pub in Bracknell.

The man became ill and died at about 23:30 GMT in an ambulance.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC) is looking into the circumstances and what happened during the man's interaction with police.

Newbold College, where the man was a mature student, said he had only returned two days before his death.

He had spent Christmas in northern Brazil and was planning to re-enrol in the college's School of English for spring semester classes.

College principal Dr Philip Brown said the college was "devastated" by the news.

"The college extends its deepest sympathy to the family, friends and the entire Newbold community at this difficult time," he added.

"Newbold is a close-knit family, and this affects us all."
