Reading walking music history tour launches
A walking and online tour charting Reading's musical history has launched.
The £25,000 Heritage Lottery-funded Reading On Tour project focuses on the town's post war music history and Reading Festival.
Set up by music charity Readipop, visitors can use two leaflet maps and an accompanying website to find out more about sites of interest.
These include the house where Tubular Bells composer Mike Oldfield grew up.
The project launched at Reading Museum's Windows Gallery where a exhibition featuring musical memorabilia, including a poster from the first Reading Festival in 1971, will be on display until June.
It is hoped the website, which also includes audio from artists such as John Mitchell, lead singer of rock band It Bites, will be updated by volunteers.
Readipop is asking members of the public to share their own musical stories to add to the project.
