Harsh Dharmendra, 12, remembered after crash death

A Berkshire school has held a special assembly after a 12-year-old pupil died in hospital after being hit by a car in Reading.

Harsh Dharmendra was knocked down in Kings Road on Tuesday afternoon on his way home from school.

He was taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but died from his injuries the following day.

He was described as a "bright and happy young man" by Bulmershe School headteacher Peter Lewis.

The headteacher said in a letter to parents: "His friendly and confident character made him a popular member of his tutor group.

"He will be sorely missed by his peers, the staff and all those who had the pleasure of being in his company."

Mr Lewis said the school's "thoughts and prayers" were with Harsh's family and his friends, "at this very sad and difficult time".

The local authority is providing a counselling service for those affected by his death.

A 24-year-old man from Earley was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and has been bailed until 26 April.
