Slough opens 10th children's centre

A Berkshire town has opened its tenth children's centre.

The £600,000 refurbishment of a Grade II listed former school in Slough has a crèche, offers support services and houses the suburb's only library.

The new centre comes amid research suggesting 47 children's centres in England have closed or are earmarked for closure because of funding cuts.

The project in the Colnbrook suburb will complete Slough's target of 10 children's centres in the borough.

The new centre is estimated to serve 437 children under the age of five in the area.

Councillor Natasa Pantelic said the library would link up with local job centres to help adults seeking employment.
