Reading Tesco supermarket burgled by masked men

Burglars broke into a Berkshire supermarket during the early hours of the morning, stealing cigarettes.

Thames Valley Police said two masked men in a White old-style Vauxhall Astra entered the Tesco store in Portman Road, Reading, at about 0200 GMT.

Detectives are investigating possible links with a burglary at a Tesco Express and robberies at a shop and petrol station in Caversham.

A man was beaten unconscious during one robbery at a petrol station on Sunday.

Two masked men raided a newsagents in Gosbrook Road, Caversham, shortly after 2200 GMT on Wednesday, leaving the shopkeeper with head injuries.

'Cheap cigarettes'

A 52-year-old man was beaten unconscious by masked robbers at the Murco petrol station in Lower Henley Road on Sunday.

Robbers drove through the window of a Tesco Express supermarket early on Saturday before stealing alcohol.

Det Insp Mark Tucker of Reading CID said: "We are looking at links between this incident and one that happened at Tesco in Caversham last weekend, as well as the two other robberies that have happened at business premises in Caversham.

"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who saw a white Vauxhall Astra being driven suspiciously in this area of Reading in the early hours of this morning.

"Also, I would like to hear from anyone who has been offered suspiciously cheap cigarettes for sale in the past week."
