Reading shopkeeper injured during robbery
A shopkeeper needed hospital treatment for head injuries after being attacked during a robbery.
Two masked men raided a newsagents in Gosbrook Road, Caversham, shortly after 2200 GMT on Wednesday.
One of the men assaulted the 27-year-old shopkeeper while the other filled a holdall with cigarettes from behind the counter.
Police are investigating possible links with two other serious incidents in the area since Saturday.
A 52-year-old man was beaten unconscious by masked robbers at the Murco petrol station in Lower Henley Road on Sunday.
The man was locking up when he was attacked for his keys. After letting themselves in the shop, the robbers stole money and cigarettes.
Robbers drove through the window of a Tesco Express supermarket early on Saturday before stealing alcohol.
Det Insp Mark Tucket of Thames Valley Police said: "This is the third serious incident we have had in Caversham since Saturday and follows a robbery at a Murco petrol station and a burglary at Tesco.
"Clearly we are looking at possible links between these three incidents.
"It is obviously alarming that violence has been used against members of staff in two of the incidents.
"Our officers are visiting other businesses in the area to make them aware of the incidents and pass on crime reduction advice."
