A 44-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found at a property in Bracknell in Berkshire.
Officers visited the home in Inchwood in Birch Hill on Monday afternoon after a phone call from the victim's family, raising concern for her welfare.
The woman, in her 30s, was found dead inside the property.
Nearby houses were evacuated for a short time after a smell of gas was reported inside the property.
Police said it was a precautionary measure and residents were allowed back after the supply had been checked and no leak found.
Post-mortem tests and formal identification are expected to take place later.
Police said the victim and the arrested man knew each other.
Det Ch Insp Peter Vigurs said: "The circumstances and motive for the murder remain under investigation.
"We are currently not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident."
