Family tribute to Berkshire driver killed in tree crash

The family of a 62-year-old man who was killed when the car he was driving left the road and crashed into a tree in Berkshire have paid tribute to him.

Chris Atkinson, from west Reading, was in a Citroen C3 when it came off the A4074 Reading Road in Cane End on Saturday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the crash scene. No other vehicles were involved.

Mr Atkinson's family said they were "devastated by his death". A private funeral will be held later in the year.

Many friends

A statement from his family read: "He was travelling from his home near Wallingford, to see a friend in London, a route he had taken many times.

"He leaves two adult children, two grandchildren, his sister and two brothers together with a wide range of friends from the Reading area and beyond."

The road was closed for about three hours while officers carried out investigations.

Police are appealing for witnesses.
