Taxi clues sought over sex attack in Berkshire

A taxi driver may hold clues about a female passenger who was later sexually assaulted.

The cabbie picked up the 23-year-old woman at about 0400 BST on Monday from Newbury town centre in Berkshire.

During her journey to an address in Thatcham, the woman used the taxi driver's mobile phone to make a call.

The woman was later involved in a serious "domestic-related" sexual assault, police said.

Man arrested

Det Sgt Neil Williams said: "We believe the taxi driver may have information that could help us with the progression of our investigation.

"I would stress that he is not in any trouble and should not fear coming forward."

A 22-year-old man from Thatcham has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He has been released on bail until 28 September.
