A man has been found guilty of killing a five-year-old boy through careless driving.

David Cowell, 42, hit Riley Ferguson when he pulled on to the drive he shared with the victim's family in Milton Keynes in June 2015.

The boy died in hospital four days later.

Cowell, of Deacon Place, Middleton, was convicted at Aylesbury Crown Court following a retrial. He will be sentenced next month.

'Tragic case'

Riley was sitting on the drive talking to a friend when he was hit by the car driven by Cowell on 7 June.

Thames Valley Police described it as a "tragic case" and "the most incredibly painful chapter" of his family's lives.

Insp Graeme Hughes said: "[It] shows what can happen even at relatively low speeds, if you are behind the wheel of a vehicle and not paying full attention.

"Cowell had clearly not been paying attention."

Cowell, who was convicted by a majority verdict, was released on bail,
