Custody drugs death man Istiak Yusuf suffered 'fit or seizure'
A man who died in a cell at Luton Police Station suffered a fit or seizure after taking a concoction of cocaine and ecstasy, an inquest heard.
Istiak Yusuf, 25, died in June 2015 after being arrested for an alleged assault against his wife.
Forensic pathologist Dr Ashley Fegan-Earl told Ampthill Coroner's Court the amount of the drugs taken explained Mr Yusuf's sudden death.
He went on to say combining drugs often caused problems.
Mr Fegan-Earl said samples taken from Mr Yusuf "showed a high level of cocaine, also MDMA and alcohol present at a moderate level, just over the legal limit for driving."
He told the inquest there were a number of drug packages in the cell when Mr Yusuf was found. He said he could not say when or by what route Mr Yusuf took the drugs.
The jury earlier heard Mr Yusuf, who lived in Luton, managed to take cocaine and MDMA despite being searched by officers before being taken to his cell.
During a check just before midday an officer raised the alarm, but Mr Yusuf died in his cell.
Five police officers and three detention officers were subsequently served with misconduct notices.
The hearing continues.
