A 39-year-old sex offender who abused a child has been rearrested after he fled from St Albans Crown Court before a jury found him guilty.

Ian McDonald, from Hemel Hempstead, ran from the court on Thursday after he appeared charged with indecent assault against a three-year-old child.

He was found guilty and sentenced to four years in prison in his absence.

He was found by officers searching for him at an address in the town on Friday evening.

McDonald, of The Heights, Hemel Hempstead, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

A 20-year-old man from Hemel has also been arrested on suspicion of harbouring and assisting an offender.
