Yarl's Wood hunger striker speaks out

Help

A former inmate of Bedfordshire's Yarl's Wood detention centre has explained why she went on hunger strike.

Denise McNeil was sent there after her arrest in 2008 before being transferred to Holloway Prison after going on hunger strike in February 2010.

On 25 January 2011, the 36-year-old was finally released after 28 months, one week and five days after being seperated from her children who hold British passports.

She told BBC Three Counties Radio the sequence of events that led to her initial arrest.
