Ice cream for cancer patients at Bedfordshire hospital
Neck and mouth cancer patients at a Bedfordshire hospital have had their own soft ice cream machine installed.
Luton and Dunstable Hospital said the machine on the specialist cancer unit provided high calorie protein food that was cooling, soothing and safe.
Dietician Katrina Martinelli wanted to boost the nutrition of her patients to improve their recovery.
"Ice cream is an acceptable food for most people and the patients are not embarrassed to eat it," she said.
"Our patients will have it available at all times to help them achieve their nutritional requirements.
"It is easy to eat and will not cause embarrassment in the process.
"Confidence in eating and swallowing safely will be restored much quicker."
