West Midlands Police arrest Syria terrorism suspect in Kent

A man has been arrested on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences.

Officers from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit arrested the 31-year-old man in Margate, Kent.

He is being held on suspicion of preparing for terrorist acts contrary to Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006, West Midlands Police said.

Officers from the terror unit were helped by Kent Police and are carrying out searches at the address where the arrest was made.

Police said the arrest was pre-planned and intelligence-led and posed no threat to public safety.
