Four charged over Taunton jewellery store raid

Four men have been charged over a robbery at a jewellery store in Taunton which led to a 70-mile police chase.

The raid took place at the Michael Spiers jewellers on Wednesday. Five men were arrested near Swindon after the chase ended in a crash on the M4.

Reece Francis, 24, Louis Kelly, 35, Steven Shields, 32, all from London, and Charles Johnstone, 27, of no fixed address, have been charged.

A fifth suspect is still receiving treatment in hospital.

The four were charged with robbery, aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, taking a motor vehicle without the owner's consent and possessing an offensive weapon in a public place.

They are due to appear before Taunton Magistrates' Court later.
