An Easyjet flight from Essex to Spain had to be diverted to Gatwick Airport following a passenger emergency.

The London Southend flight to Alicante, which left at 07:00 GMT, had almost reached France when it turned back because of a "passenger's well-being".

Easyjet said on its website that the plane took off from the West Sussex Airport at about 09:20 GMT.

It said the passenger was "requiring further assistance" and thanked people for their patience.
