Thames Valley drink drive arrests 'down'

There has been a decrease in the amount of people arrested as part of a Christmas drinking and driving campaign in the Thames Valley, police say.

The campaign has seen 185 people arrested, compared to 195 during the same period last year.

More than 7,600 people have so far been breath tested and 101 of those arrested have been charged.

Of the arrests, 71 were in Berkshire, 70 in Buckinghamshire and 44 in Oxfordshire.

Ch Insp Henry Parsons said: "Drinking and driving wrecks lives, most obviously the hundreds of victims and their loved ones who are killed each year."

He added it also changes the lives of the people "who are selfish or stupid enough to drive when they are not fit to do so".

The campaign, which launched on 1 December, runs until January.
