A 15-year-old boy has been banned from attending Banbury United Football Club after a bottle was thrown onto the pitch at a match.

The club said their Southern League Premier game against Slough Town had to be called off at half time on Saturday.

Reports on social media suggested the bottle hit the referee but police said no-one was injured.

The Banbury teenager has undertaken a youth restorative disposal, which involves apologising, police said.

Banbury United told supporters to hold on to their tickets for the match, held at Spencer Stadium, as they would be valid for a restaging of the game.

The home side was losing 2-1 when the game was halted.
