Armed police close M6 near Stafford for firearms arrest

A motorway was closed while armed police arrested four men in response to reports of a crime about 80 miles away.

The M6 northbound was closed between junctions 13 and 14, near Stafford, while the arrests were made, police said.

Officers were responding to reports of a crime near Corby, Northamptonshire.

Staffordshire Police said the men were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and illegal firearm possession. They are being held in police custody.

Northamptonshire Police said it received reports of damage to a vehicle near Corby just before 07:00 BST.
