A football match has been played in memory of a trainee accountant killed in Shropshire.

Danny Jones, 21, of Chirk, north Wales, was stabbed with a replica Lord of the Rings sword near a car park in Oswestry, and died in hospital.

The match between Chirk AAA FC and Oswestry Town FC took place at Chirk's home ground.

It was part of the campaign Save a Life, Surrender Your Knife, backed by Danny's mother Samantha McNeil.

"Getting involved in the project has given me something to focus on since this has happened to Danny because we really didn't know what to do," she said.

"The football match is a really nice idea."

Richard Reece 19, from Lord Street in Oswestry, was acquitted of murder but found guilty of manslaughter over the stabbing last year.
