Stafford to Newport £2m cycle path to finish by Christmas

A 14-mile (22.5km) cycle path costing about £2m is due to be completed later this year.

Work on the project, between Stafford and Newport, Shropshire, on a disused railway line, started in 2004.

The final stretch near to Moreton, Staffordshire, will join the two existing sections of the cycle path.

Work is due to begin in September when plants have died back and insects start hibernating, Staffordshire County Council said.

The Conservative-controlled authority said the final 1.9 miles (3km) of the scheme should be completed by Christmas.
